Prospective students considering Career Campus commonly ask two questions about entry requirements. Some worry their English isn’t strong enough. Others worry they have no prior experience in accounting or taxation.

Here are the straight answers to both questions.

English Proficiency: Basic to Intermediate Is Sufficient

Career Campus requires basic to intermediate English proficiency. Here’s why: the program delivers all training and professional documentation in English. This reflects the real working environment of Australian taxation and BPO firms.

You do not need advanced or native-level English to enrol. Basic to intermediate proficiency simply means you can follow instruction. You can read and understand English text. And you can communicate in a professional context at a functional level.

If you have completed your A/Ls in Sri Lanka, you almost certainly meet this requirement. English forms a core component of the Sri Lankan school curriculum. A/L-level English exposure is generally enough to engage with Career Campus training.

Why English Proficiency Matters in This Field

Professionals conduct Australian taxation work entirely in English. Client documentation, ATO correspondence, software interfaces, and professional communication all use English.

Career Campus supports your English development directly through the program itself. Working through real Australian tax scenarios, compliance documents, and software workflows in English naturally builds your professional English in context.

Accounting Background: Not Required

Career Campus does not require any prior accounting knowledge or background to enrol.

The program specifically starts from fundamental concepts and progresses step by step. This means someone with no exposure to accounting, taxation, or finance can begin at Level 1. From there, they build genuine, job-ready competence from the ground up.

This is a deliberate design choice. Career Campus serves career switchers, A/L graduates exploring new directions, and working professionals from unrelated fields. It is not built only for people who already have an accounting background.

What “Starting From Fundamentals” Actually Means

Level 1 is the Professional Australian Taxation program. It begins with the foundational concepts of the Australian tax system. Students learn how income tax works and how PAYG operates. They learn what a tax return involves and how the ATO administers compliance.

From there, students move progressively through individual tax returns, business taxation, and practical software-based workflows. Each concept builds on the last. No step assumes knowledge from a previous course. Everything students need, the program provides directly.

Who This Opens the Door To

These entry requirements mean Career Campus is genuinely accessible to a wide range of students.

A/L graduates who studied science or arts streams, not commerce, can enrol. Working professionals from retail, hospitality, or other non-finance industries can enrol too. So can career switchers at any stage who want to move into a high-paying, stable professional field.

The real requirements come down to three things: basic to intermediate English, a genuine commitment to completing the program, and the willingness to be assessed on demonstrated competence as you progress.
