Career Campus runs a three-level Australian Taxation career progression pathway. Each level is a distinct program with its own curriculum, assessments, and employment outcomes. Together, they form a structured journey from beginner to specialist.
Here is a clear breakdown of what each level covers. This includes what it requires and what it leads to.
Level 1 — Professional Australian Taxation
What it covers:
Level 1 is the foundation of the Career Campus pathway. It suits students with no prior accounting or taxation background. The program builds core competence in the Australian tax system from the ground up.
The program includes:
- Australian Tax Theory and Individual Tax
- Practical Tax Return Preparation
- Industry Tax Software Training
How it is assessed:
A theory test, practical case work, and a software-based assessment measure student progress. Passing all three, not attendance alone, determines progression to Level 2.
Duration: 12 months
Upon successful completion: Students receive a Level 1 completion certificate. This makes them eligible for entry-level employment as a Tax Assistant, at an indicative salary of LKR 85,000 per month.
At this salary level, students recover the course investment of LKR 385,000 in approximately 4.5 months.
Level 2 — Advanced Australian Taxation
What it covers:
Level 2 builds directly on the foundations of Level 1. It moves into more complex, business-level Australian taxation work. The program suits students who have completed Level 1 and are ready to advance their skills and their career.
The program includes:
- Advanced Business Tax
- Compliance and Lodgement Skills
- Advanced Tax Software Usage
How it is assessed:
An advanced theory exam, real-world practical cases, and software competency testing measure student progress.
Duration: 12 months
A key feature of Level 2: Students who join the Career Campus affiliated firm after Level 1 can study Level 2 while working at entry level. This means students earn LKR 85,000 per month while simultaneously building the skills that take them to the next salary tier.
Upon successful completion: Students receive a Level 2 completion certificate and progress into mid-level roles at an indicative salary of LKR 250,000 per month.
Level 3 — Self-Managed Superannuation Fund (SMSF) Specialist
What it covers:
Level 3 is the specialist tier of the Career Campus pathway. SMSF stands for Self-Managed Superannuation Fund — a highly specialised, in-demand area of Australian taxation. It requires deep, technical knowledge and professional advisory capability.
The program includes:
- SMSF Setup and Compliance
- Trustee Obligations and Reporting
- High-Level Professional Advisory Skills
How it is assessed:
An SMSF theory examination, practical compliance case studies, and a software and documentation review measure student progress.
Duration: 12 months
Upon successful completion: Students receive a Level 3 completion certificate and operate at specialist and consultant level, at an indicative salary of LKR 500,000 per month.
How the Three Levels Connect
The three levels work as a progressive pathway, with each one building directly on the last.
| Level 1 | Level 2 | Level 3 | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Program | Professional Australian Taxation | Advanced Australian Taxation | SMSF Specialist |
| Duration | 12 months | 12 months | 12 months |
| Key focus | Individual tax, tax returns, software | Business tax, compliance, lodgement | SMSF setup, trustee obligations, advisory |
| Indicative salary | LKR 85,000/month | LKR 250,000/month | LKR 500,000/month |
| Career stage | Tax Assistant | Senior Tax Professional | SMSF Specialist / Consultant |
Do You Have to Complete All Three Levels?
No. Each level stands on its own, with its own certificate and its own employment outcome. A student who completes Level 1 and enters employment becomes a qualified, employed Tax Assistant. That student does not have to continue to Level 2 immediately.
However, the salary progression across the three levels makes continuing a compelling decision. Consider the jump from LKR 85,000 to LKR 250,000 at Level 2. Students achieve this while already working, representing a significant increase in earning power for a further 12 months of part-time study.
Where Do I Start?
All students begin at Level 1, regardless of prior background. The program starts from fundamentals, so enrolling requires no prior accounting or taxation knowledge.
